Day #1 at the Eagle Trail at Takena Park in Albany, OR


 Day #1 - January 1, 2022 ~ Hooting with the Owls

As I begin my virtual journey to Arches National Park, I am gifted with the presence of two great horned owls. While hiking on the Eagle Trail by the Willamette River in the early evening,  I heard the call of an owl. I gave out my version of an owl hoot and he hooted right back! Soon another owl flew in and joined us in our hooting party. Of course it was too dark for a photo, so I decided to do a quick sketch of my wonderful experience with the owls! It was really a hoot!

  Arches National Park - 1005 miles from my home!                   Walking a 1000 mile Trail! On January 1, 2022, I will begin recording miles that I have walked on trails in Oregon and Washington. I wanted to add some excitement to my goal of completing at least 1000 miles by the end of the year, by creating a virtual walk for my record keeping. After a search with the help of Mapquest, I found that Arches National Park in Utah is 1005 miles from my front door in Albany, OR.  On my virtual walk I will begin in Oregon, cross over the southwestern corner of Idaho, and head south into Utah to Arches NP. I am also planning a trip in April to Arches NP (this time driving!) and so part of my total miles will actually be in Arches! Four days til lift off!

Virtual Record Keeping for my 1000 Mile Walk! Map showing my virtual journey from Albany, OR to Arches NP! Last year with an injured foot I was not able to complete my 1000 mile walk. In fact, my foot hurt so much I had to stop walking altogether. It was a challenging year, but now it's a new year, and I am back on the trail!
